Training Class – First Aid and CPR for your dog!

On March 9, 2013, 21 members, friends and guests of the Dog Park in Readington, became ASHI Pet First Aid and Pet CPR certified. Steve and Debbie of First Aid & CPR, LLC. provided excellent instruction on what to do in case of an emergency.

Stressed throughout the course was that safety is the top priority before attempting to provide aid to an injured dog or cat. Only after being sure that the area is safe for you and having alerted authorities or animal health care professionals should you begin any type of assistance to the animal.

All in attendance had an opportunity to perform the ABC’s (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) on Casper a CPR simulator.  Not unlike working on a Resusci Anne simulator, we were able to make compressions, check for pulse and do rescue breathing.

The first aid portion of the class was extensive and comprehensive. Topics discussed included, injuries to muscles and bones, soft tissue wounds, medical emergencies, environmental emergencies and common illnesses and conditions. All in attendance were provided with a manual that imparts step-by-step instruction.

Also included was an inexpensive way to build first aid kits for both your home and your car.

Since this was such a success, we will look to work with First Aid & CPR, LLC. again, in the near future. If you have not taken this course please look to do so.
